On this project with the City of London, SHIFT led the design during concept development and public engagement with the goal of providing a dynamic social space for the City and its SoHo neighbourhood. Shift is now leading the detailed design phase.
Civic Space: SoHo is an urban square that will provide the SoHo neighbourhood with a space for both organized events and passive community gathering while being a catalyst for the area's redevelopment. The concept responds to the adjacent former War Memorial Children's Hospital by creating views and access to the building while large interpretive panels relay the historical memory of the site and neighbourhood. The urban square's plants balance the paved elements providing additional unique experiences and opportunities for spontaneous or informal gathering.
